Both Jinny and I live in Taipei since childhood. As we are from local, we have been visited the North coast in Taiwan many times. However, there still some secret places we never explore. We are so glad to have two new friends Mikel from Spain and Gail from Taiwan to take adventure with us.

Shimen Terrace

Shimen terrace is the only one terrace which was built on the lava in Taiwan and over 100 years history already. While we arrived there, it started raining but it doesn't spoil our fun.The cloud and the fog make the atmosphere there more attractive for us. We thought we stay in the wonderland!!

While we walked along the country road, we found a strange thatched cottage standing in the corner. A local old man told us the thatched cottage usually built to store the tools and goods for cultivation. But the thatched cottage we saw was built by SongShan community and now it is for memorial the spirit of ancestors.
You might be interested what the "三顧茅廬" on the board means? You can check http://www.enbaike.cn/view/3661.html to know about the story of China history.

For the people live in Taipei city, we don't have much opportunity to walk into farmland. Especially it is harvest season, we can observe the ear of rice closely.

We really enjoyed the scene in Shimen terrace. The weather was not too warm and the drizzle made the air flesh. It is so lucky for us and it was also perfect to quench the thirst with one "枝仔冰 ice pop". Mikel was so curious how "枝仔冰" taste like as it is his first time. He said "goooood~~~"

Lunch in Fuji Harbor and Fish market
IMG_0127 IMG_0128
Can you image what we have to do to have lunch in harbor?
Firstly, you have to buy some seafood you want in fish market. All the shrimp, fish, squid, clam...ect are alive. How flesh they are!
Secondly, you need to fight with the vendor to get more discount and request some bonus for free(It is time to practice our negotiation skill).
Thirdly, move to restaurant area with the seafood you bought. Discuss with waitress how to cook for each of ingredient and extra payment might needed for the cooking fee.
Lastly, enjoy all delicious dish! "Stir Fried Clams with Basil", "Blanch Shrimp", "Steamed Fish", "Roast spiral snail", "Oyster soup", "Sashimi"......

Shimen Arch

During the lunch, Mikel has question about what "Shimen" means? We said Shimen is pronounced like a stone arch in Chinese. However, it is still hard for him to understand Chinese meaning. So, we decide to show him what is "Shimen" directly.
Shimen Arch is a stone cut by sea waves for years and years long ago. Unless standing in front of Shimen Arch to experience how impressive of this nature wanders is, we also follow the steps and get up to the top of the arch to see the beautiful view of the coast.

Shitoushan Park/Twin Candlestick Islets

Another amazing geographic feature name "Twin Candlestick Islets" which is also formed by sea wave erosion. There is a easy walking trail in Shitoushan park can reach the top of Shitoushan, about 70 meter above the sea level. It is a perfect place to watch the beautiful Twin Candlestick Islets.
Additional, do you see how clear the water is? Next time, we plan to visit the secret beach that we can set the foot into the cool water to enjoy the blue sky, crystal clear ocean and the amazing Twin Candlestick Islets. Are you looking forward to join us?
